Heritage’s $12 million night

Heritage’s September 18 TCG auction totalled $12.18 million. It was led by a PSA 9 Pikachu Illustrator at $5 million, the most ever for that grade, and a 1st Edition Base Set booster box at $750,000, a record for sealed Pokémon product (artdaily). The next day Goldin sold a CGC 9 Illustrator for $2,806,271 (Sports Illustrated).

A million-dollar 1st Edition Charizard?

Sports Illustrated reported a PSA 10 1st Edition Shadowless Charizard selling on eBay for $1,000,952 on September 9 (SI). If confirmed, it tops the previous high of $954,800. We could not match it to a public listing, so treat it as reported.

Excluded: the $2.7M Gold Star Torchic
A PSA 10 Gold Star Torchic was reported at $2.7 million on Alt, with bidding that closed on September 10. The previous PSA 10 sale was $25,400, the result has drawn public skepticism, and it is not independently confirmed (TheGamer), so we leave it off the ranking.

Record sales are single exceptional transactions, not market values. For what a card is worth today, PokéTT shows the median of recent sales in each grade on every card page. September’s other big story, the 30th Celebration launch, is covered in 30th Celebration prices.
